Nighttime Recovery Hot Cocoa

This Nighttime Recovery Hot Cocoa is easy to make, plant-based, and made to help you recover. It’s naturally sweetened with dates and the combination of hemp seeds and cocoa flavors is simply pleasant. This drink hits the spot on a blustery winter night or after a cold winter ride. Makes 4 (4-oz) servings.

Ingredients

2 cups unsweetened soy milk

2 Tbsp cocoa or cacao powder

2 Tbsp date syrup (sub whole pitted Medjool dates)

3 Tbsp hemp seeds

½ tsp vanilla extract

1 pinch of fine sea salt

For serving, optional

Whipped cream (vegan or whole milk)

Ground cinnamon

Marshmallows (vegan-friendly as needed)

1 square dark chocolate, dropped into a mug (70% cacao or higher)

Directions

Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend until completely smooth and creamy.

Pour into a small saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until steamy and warmed. About 3-5 minutes.

Serve warm in a mug finished with whipped cream, ground cinnamon, marshmallows, or a square of dark chocolate.

Keep leftovers in an airtight container or jar in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

Nutrition Tip: Drinking or eating a nighttime snack 30 minutes to 1 hour before bed containing 10–20g of protein and 150-200 calories has been shown to help aid in recovery while you sleep. This recipe is mindfully designed to help you hit those needs!
