Regarding the food we eat, the most beneficial approach (and what science recommends) is to eat a diet full of whole foods that are locally sourced, in season, and include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
This way of eating provides more nutrient-dense foods for our bodies. It contains a healthy balance of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients (natural compounds found in plants that protect the body from disease) that the body can easily recognize and use as fuel. Whole, real foods are in their natural state, which means their nutrients are easier for the body to absorb and utilize - a key component of enhancing health and promoting a more resilient health system.
Choosing whole foods also supports a diverse and healthy gut, which is crucial for optimal digestion. Pro tip: We aren’t what we eat; rather we are what we digest!
Packaged foods, on the other hand, often undergo significant processing, which strips them of their natural nutrients and adds synthetic ingredients, preservatives, and other additives that don’t bode well for our bodies.
